Blog #14 We are WATER!

Considering we are 70% water and we live on a planet that is about 71% water... We should probably care at least 70% about how we use, treat and manage water. 

According to new studies published in the National Geographic foundation, we are in a fresh water crisis.



We also need to care a WHOLE lot about groundwater. Something I never really considered is how to protect our precious resources below the surface. There is an entire foundation dedicated to just this! We can educate, support and raise the voice of how significant it is to preserve and protect our precious water resources.

We use a staggering amount of water in this country! Yet many communities around the globe have no access to clean drinking water.

    I cant think of a more necessary resource than water, we can last weeks without food bot only a few days without water. During the recent dry spell we all suffered in California, I became the water police. I started reporting people who would water their plants or wash their cars on off days. I became a horrible neighbor because I was terrified not to have water to drink. I kept scouting the US to figure out where I would to next. Seattle was high on my list. Thank God we finally got some rain. I have really changed my habit saving water since then.

Blog #1 My Home Assessment

Did you discover any environmental risks in your home by completing the home assessment ? Yes! By completing my home assessment I realized many things about my current home, and considered past risks associated with my many living situations throughout my life.  My current home was built in 2014- although the original 1942 structure still partially exists. Our living room and original foundation/roof were retained when we purchased and remodeled our home into it's current modern iteration. The old windows, interior paint were all removed. The exterior paint still remains, deeply buried under many layers. I also wonder if the original insulation still remains inside the walls... We do not have a basement or attic that is accessible. But the crawl space under the home is where we store many items. Christmas decorations/lights/lawn tools/ chemicals and old paint cans. We do not use a pesticide company but do locally spray pesticides around areas of our home in response to ants/...

How can we strengthen our voice as nurses for climate change? A 2018 article by the American Academy of Nursing on Policy recommended 8 principles for nurses to take a lead on bringing this critically important issue to the forefront: 1. Reduce sources of pollution that contribute to climate change . a. Mobilize, focus, incentivize, and increase national funding for climate protective actions. b. Oppose any rollback of climate protective polices addressing fuel economy standards, power plant emissions, and other sources of atmospheric carbon. c.
