A new report out by in the European journal for Environmental Sciences highlights the vast differences in regulation of pesticides and other toxic substances between the EU and U.S. The U.S. continues to lag behind in regulation of pesticides, and enforcement of illegal dumping by toxic polluters.
Unfortunately, it looks like this path will continue as the Trump era EPA rolls back regulation and appoints officials deeply entrenched in the business of dirty energy and contaminating basic resources like water and air. The installation of the new EPA administrator, Andrew Wheeler who is a former coal industry lobbyist and lawyer who has publicly denied climate change, will likely lead to continued policy that aligns with corporate polluters. He has recently added new 'scientists' who deny the evidence of climate change with plans to further de-regulate an already corrupt industry.
We may need to look to the progressive approach by the EU to work on global climate issues while we develop an approach to counter the destructive acts by Trump and his environmental pirates.
